Active participation of women in politics is need of hour, says Haryana Congress president Kumari Selja | Chandigarh News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Congress president Kumari Selja on Saturday urged the women folk, especially the aware and educated women of the state to come out of their houses to shoulder the responsibility of society by having an active participation in the politics.
While having a direct interaction with women from various backgrounds from across the state during the Women Panchayat on Women Empowerment and crime against women, Selja said that participation of aware women is need of the hour to have clean governance and politics in the state as well as the country.
The Panchayat had been organised by the technocrat turned social worker and politician Priyanka Singh who coordinated the entire program. Besides, the women of prominence such as social workers like Priyanka Punia, former Mayor Upender Ahluwalia , MLAs Shelly Chaudhary and Renu Bala , Women congress president Sudha Bhardwaj, Baljeet Kaur Maan, an activist and leading medico and former DGHS Kamla Singh had direct interaction with women and young girls.who clarified their doubts.
Selja elaborated upon the efforts of the Congress party and former PM Rajiv Gandhi towards women empowerment. She said that it was due to efforts made by former rulers that women are empowered and rising for their rights.
Among the issues taken up during the hour and half long event included female foeticide, crime against women, protection of rights of women, issues of harassment of women at work places. Gender biases.
“ Unlike other political programmes we had designed this programme for interaction only. And our target is to prepare the new cadre of politicians, effective social workers and more participation of women in the society,’’ said Priyanka Singh.
